Privacy Policy
1. Who this applies to
Nowby is intended only for people 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. See Children below.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address, display name, and anything you add to your profile (photo, bio, interests).
- Content you create — plans you post, messages you send, and your activity within circles.
- Support requests — anything you send us by email.
Information collected automatically
- Location — used to place you in a neighborhood-level zone (see below).
- Device & usage data — device type, app version, and basic interaction data so the app works and stays reliable.
3. How location works on Nowby
You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings. Some features — like seeing who's nearby — won't work without it, but the rest of the app still does.
4. How we use your information
- To run the core experience — presence, zones, circles, plans, and chat.
- To send you sign-in codes and essential account emails.
- To keep Nowby safe — reviewing reports, enforcing our rules, and blocking abuse.
- To process and manage paid subscriptions.
- To fix bugs, improve features, and understand how the app is used in aggregate.
- To comply with the law and protect people's rights and safety.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share only as follows:
- With other users — your display name, profile, and zone-level presence, as the app is designed to show.
- With service providers who run Nowby on our behalf, including our database and hosting provider (Supabase), our email provider (Resend), and our app and payment platforms (Apple App Store, Google Play, and our subscription manager). These providers may only use your data to provide their service to us.
- For legal and safety reasons — when required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public.
- In a business transfer — if Nowby is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.
6. Your choices and rights
You can:
- Access and edit your profile information in the app.
- Delete your account at any time from within the app, which removes your profile and associated personal data, subject to limited retention below.
- Control location through your device settings.
- Block or report any user.
Depending on where you live (for example, California, Colorado, Virginia, and other U.S. states), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or limit the use of your personal information. To exercise any of these, email hello@nowby.us and we'll respond as required by law.
7. Data retention & deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data, except limited information we're required to keep for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes, which we delete when no longer needed.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to respond promptly if something goes wrong.
9. Children
Nowby is strictly for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has used Nowby, contact hello@nowby.us and we will remove the account and associated data.
10. Where your data is processed
Nowby is operated from the United States, and your information is processed there. If you use Nowby from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be handled in the U.S.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Nowby after changes means you accept the updated policy.
